According to the election affidavit of Union minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi, there are seven criminal cases pending against him against for charges including criminal intimidation, rioting, promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, etc., and extortion.

Since his oath taking, Sarangi has been hailed on social media for his simple and austere life, though he was the Bajrang Dal’s Odisha state coordinator during the brutal murder of Graham Staines and his sons.
