After The Wire and its media partners in the Pegasus Project revealed that at least two mobile phone accounts used by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were listed as potential targets by an official Indian client of the NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware, the party’s leader Shashi Tharoor spoke to Arfa Khanum Sherwani.
The MP says the allegations show that the government is willing to go to any lengths to target opposition leaders. He said that if the allegations are true, they represent a gross violation of rights and laws. He asked how a software that is meant to combat crime and terrorism can be used to target politicians, journalists and activists.
