Karnataka: What Do Fisherfolk Want from the New Government?

The Pickle Jar Poll Express and The Wire travel to Malpe in Udupi district to understand what life is like on the 300-km coastline for Karnataka's fishermen.

The highlight of the Karnataka budget this year – the first from the Congress-JD(S) government since it came to power this May – presented by chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, was the Rs 34,000-crore waiver of farm loans meant to bring cheer to the 40-million strong farmer community.

But other groups, like the fishermen in the state, who live and work along Karnataka’s 300-km coastline, did not find much of a mention in the budget.
