New Delhi: A court in Tuticorin on Thursday ordered the police to register a case against Tamil Nadu state Bharatiya Janata Party president Tamilsai Soundararajan and ten others for allegedly threatening Lois Sofia, LiveLaw reported. The order has come in the wake of a petition filed by A.A. Sami, Lois Sofia’s father, according to a News Minute report. The police reportedly took no action following Sami’s complaint with the Pudukkottai police against the BJP leader and her followers, stating that they had “abused, intimidated and threatened his daughter at the airport”.On September 3, Lois Sofia (28), a student of mathematics at a Canadian university, was sent to 15-day police custody after Tamilsai asked the Pudukkottai police detain her.Sofia’s ‘offence’? Soundararajan alleges that Sofia shouted ‘Down with the fascist BJP’ after the plane had landed. Neither she nor anyone else has alleged there was any physical contact. Yet the BJP leader claimed her “life was in danger” and insisted on filing a police complaint, following which the student was arrested.Sami has sought an FIR against Tamilsai and others under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), Section 294(b) (uttering obscenity), 506(i)(criminal intimidation) and for offences under Tamil Nadu Woman Harassment Act. According to the magistrate, there is “sufficient ground to register complaint against persons who came along with 1st respondent Tamilisai Sounderrajan”.“Since the offence alleged to be happened at airport and in respect of allegations against the respondents the CCTV footage stated to be available at airport and at Pudukottai Police Station has to be verified for the investigation before lodging the FIR against the respondents (sic),” LiveLaw quotes the order as saying. The court has asked the police to report to it on the matter on or before November 20.
