New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday, June 9, took wrestler Sangeeta Phogat to Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s official residence in Delhi to recreate the sequence of events that led to the sexual harassment of which he has been accused.
“At 1:30 pm women officers took Sangeeta Phogat to Brij Bhushan’s official residence in Delhi. They were there for half an hour. They asked her to recreate the scene and recall the places where she faced harassment,” news agency PTI quoted sources as saying. She was accompanied by women police constables, the sources added.
The Delhi Police, which is investigating the allegations against Singh, is likely to submit in court its report by next week, officials in the know of things said. So far, 180 people have been quizzed in connection with two FIRs filed in the case.
Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat, Sangeeta’s sister, took to Twitter alleging that fake news is being spread about her sister’s presence at Singh’s residence on Friday, saying that she had gone there to work out a compromise with him. Vinesh clarified that Sangeeta was taken there by the police to recreate the scene.
“This is the power of Brij Bhushan. He is busy harassing women wrestlers by using his muscle power, political power and running false narratives. If the police arrests him instead of breaking us, there is hope of justice, otherwise no,” Vinesh wrote on Twitter in Hindi.

“Women wrestlers had gone to the crime site for police investigation, but it was run in the media that they had gone to compromise,” she added on Twitter.
Another wrestler Bajrang Punia wrote along similar lines on Twitter. “Women wrestlers went to the crime site for police investigation but it was run in the media that they had gone to compromise. This is the power of Brijbhushan. He is troubling women wrestlers by running muscle power, political power and false narratives. His arrest is necessary. Police trying to break us,” his tweet in Hindi said.

Even Delhi Police took to Twitter to issue a clarification about the same. “Please don’t pay attention to rumours. Delhi Police took a woman wrestler to the office of the Wrestling Federation of India for investigation,” the official handle of the DCP New Delhi tweeted.

This is not the first time that fake news is being spread about protesting wrestlers. Earlier, it was said that they had ended their protest following the resumption of their regular duties in railways. The wrestlers dismissed them as mere rumuors, being spread with the intention to break them and defame them.
As it stands today, the wrestlers suspended their protest until June 15 after they met Union sports minister Anurag Thakur two days back who assured them that a charge sheet would be filed in the case by next week and an election will be carried out to choose a new WFI chief by the end of June.
