New Delhi: While one US State Department official has made his displeasure with the Joe Biden administration’s Israel-Palestine policy public, others within the Department too are reportedly feeling a mounting dissatisfaction.HuffPost reports that experts within the Department feel their advice is being ignored by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his senior advisors. There is reportedly “widespread internal frustration” in the Department.“There’s basically a mutiny brewing within State at all levels,” one official told HuffPost.Both Biden and Blinken and shown complete support for the Israeli state as it carries out air strikes and a possible ground in Gaza, ostensibly to flush out Hamas militants.“Two officials told HuffPost that diplomats are preparing what’s called a “dissent cable,” a document criticizing American policy that goes to the agency’s leaders through a protected internal channel,” the portal reported. Such cables are only prepared at times of serious disagreement and are seen as consequential. They were first developed during the Vietnam war.Earlier this week, a senior US State Department official, Josh Paul, has resigned from his position because of the Biden administration’s response to the situation in Israel and Palestine. Paul said on LinekdIn that his decision was due to “a policy disagreement concerning our [the US government’s] continued lethal assistance to Israel”.
