New Delhi: Amidst pleas of students stuck at the Ukraine-Poland border in the cold, the Indian government has created a Twitter handle to manage evacuation operations from the country under Russian attack and will dispatch ministers to oversee the process from four European countries.The account ‘OpGanga Helpline’ (@opganga) has been set up to assist in the evacuation through border crossing points between Ukraine and Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Slovak Republic.It has been posting advisories from embassies in all five of these countries along with urgent messages.Ministers to travelOn Monday, February 28, the Union government also announced that four Union ministers – Hardeep Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and V.K. Singh – will travel to Ukraine’s neighbouring countries to coordinate the evacuation mission and help students.These ministers will be going there as “special envoys” of India, official sources said.Scindia will take care of evacuation efforts from Romania and Moldova while Rijiju will go to Slovakia.The sources said that Puri will go to Hungary while Singh will be in Poland to manage the evacuation.Several ministers, including external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and commerce minister Piyush Goyal, attended a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi where this decision was taken.EAM Jaishankar also tweeted that he had spoken to the Moldovian foreign minister Nicu Popescu over an entry point opening on the Ukraine-Moldova border to facilitate evacuations.Called Foreign Minister @nicupopescu of Moldova seeking support for facilitating entry of our nationals on the Ukraine-Moldova border.Appreciate his ready response and strong support.#TeamMEA representatives will accordingly reach there tomorrow.— Dr. S. Jaishankar (@DrSJaishankar) February 27, 2022Meanwhile, Air India’s fifth evacuation flight came from Romanian capital Bucharest to Delhi on Monday morning with 249 Indian nationals who were stranded in Ukraine.Air India has evacuated a total of 1,156 Indian nationals in five evacuation flights till now. One more evacuation flight is expected to land in Delhi on Monday.‘Please help’Since it was formed, the @opganga account has been tagged in fervent requests for rescue, attention and evacuation to Indians stuck in various locations across Ukraine.“Dear sir, my son Ram Saurav Singh and his 25 friends are stuck at Chop, Ukraine near Zahony border. They are waiting to be allowed into Hungary. But have been stopped in doing so,” wrote a Twitter user, adding that his son is without food and shelter in the cold.“We completely understand the difficult situation of your son and his friends. Please contact our team at the border crossing point with Hungary: +36 308517373 (WhatsApp) ,+36 13257742 and +36 13257743,” the official operation handle has replied.Several tweets to the handle spoke of helpline numbers going unanswered or proving difficult to reach.“Please help…My uncle Shri O.P. Vohra (62 years) is stuck at Ukraine Poland border. He’s been walking on foot since yesterday to reach the border. There, he is all by himself. Tired and confused, he needs urgent support. @opganga @IndiainPoland.
