A recent incident in which a vehicle with Sikhs inside was attacked by another group in Harris Park, Sydney, has alerted the police. The violence came as a shock to the Indian community and to the authorities. A local television news report said ‘thugs’ had been warned by the police that they risk being deported to India if the attacks did not end.The violence comes in the aftermath of the farm law protests in India. There have been similar incidents in other parts of the world such as Canada where Sikhs live.Dr Surjeet Dhanji of the University of Melbourne and the Asia Institute says such a thing has never happened among members of the growing Australian Indian population.
