New Delhi: The UK-based group Sikh Federation says it is concerned that British officers have not given enough security advice to high-profile individuals in the community and has asked members of the community to write to their MPs about steps that will be taken “to alert Sikh activists who may be under threat”.The concern was expressed after the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, with Justin Trudeau accusing the Indian government of involvement. The Sikh Federation, a representative body, has “drawn up a letter for Sikhs to send to parliament”, according to The Guardian. The MPs should be urged to “write to the home secretary and security minister to set out actions that have been taken or will be taken to alert Sikh activists who may be under threat and address their safety and security”, the letter says. There are about 500,000 Sikhs in the UK. India has expressed concern to the UK about alleged anti-India activities by advocates of Khalistan. Recently, Six British Sikhs were named among 20 pro-Khalistan activists who were described as “enemies of the state” by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).The Sikh Federation compared the UK police’s inaction to the US FBI warning three Americans Siksh that their lives were in danger in the immediate aftermath of Nijjar’s killing. As a member of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing relationship, the UK should be aware of the evidence underpinning Trudeau’s statements.According to The Guardian, British Sikhs are planning to hold a demonstration on Monday outside India’s high commission in central London about the government’s alleged involvement in Nijjar’s death. In March this year, a protest by Sikh groups saw a Khalistan demonstrator remove the Indian flag from outside the building.
