New Delhi: In a rare move, the Israeli army has carried out an aerial attack on Jenin town in the northern West Bank, reports the BBC.The news report quoting the Palestinian Authority said two people have died in the attack made on the town’s Al-Ansar mosque. According to the health ministry of the Palestinian Authority, which runs a part of the West Bank, since October 7, as many as 89 Palestinians in the West Bank have died in Israeli attacks. An Al Jazeera report said three people have also been injured in the attack.Justifying the aerial attack carried out on Sunday, the Israeli authorities said Hamas had been using the mosque compound since July. The BBC report said the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) released images of what it said were entrances to the compound, alongside images of weapons, computers and security measures pictured at the site.“The IDF did not confirm whether a plane, helicopter or drone had been used in the Jenin strike on Sunday, but Israeli media reported that it was a fighter jet. The reports said if confirmed it would be only the second time in about two decades that a fighter jet had hit a target in the West Bank,” said the BBC.“The Israeli military said the strike on the Al-Ansar mosque early on Sunday killed several members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad who had been using the building as a command centre,” said the Al Jazeera report.
