New Delhi: Iran launched a fresh offensive on Israel and US bases in West Asia on Sunday morning with reports of explosions being heard in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE on Sunday (March 1) morning.Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched a “sixth wave” of missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases in the region.The retaliation comes in the wake of the Israeli-US attack on Iran on Saturday (February 28), followed by air strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The reports of Khamenei’s passing were confirmed by Iran on Sunday morning.The attack on Iran on February 28 began with airstrikes in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah.Iran retaliatesEarlier on Sunday the Iranian embassy in India said that in the “fifth wave of Operation True Promise 4 in the Indian Ocean, the MSP ship, which was carrying ammunition for American vessels, was hit by four drones at the Jebel Ali anchorage and was completely disabled with damage and explosions.” Jebel Ali is a major commercial port in Dubai. Dubai International Airport, the landmark Burj Al Arab hotel and the upscale, man-made Palm Jumeirah island have all suffered damage Reuters reported.The Iranian consulate said that a US naval base in Kuwait’s Abdullah Mubarak area was also hit.According to CNN reports, plumes of smoke were seen emanating from the Crown Plaza hotel in Bahrain’s Manama. Bahrain’s interior ministry said sirens were sounded across the country on Sunday morning.Explosions were also reported in Qatar’s Doha, with the country’s interior ministry saying that 16 people had been injured so far, with “limited material damage” in some parts of the country.The US embassy in Jordan has issued a security alert, urging people to take shelter. “Reports indicate missiles, drones, or rockets are in Jordanian airspace. Seek overhead cover and shelter in place immediately,” it said, asking people to “remain indoors and pay attention to local announcements and alerts.”
