New Delhi: The Indian government is organising evacuation flights for Indians stuck in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. These flights, official sources told The Wire, will leave from neighbouring countries and the costs will be borne by the government. No other details, like the timeline of these flights, were made immediately available. However, soon after this decision, the Indian embassy in Ukraine issued an advisory to students and nationals – particularly those living closer to border checkpoints – saying that evacuation routes from Romania and Hungary are currently being planned. “Indian nationals, especially students living closest to [the border checkpoints mentioned] are being advised to depart first in an organized manner,” the advisory said. Those using cars and buses to make their way to the checkpoints, the advisory added, should print out an Indian flag and stick it prominently on the vehicle.Important Advisory to all Indian Nationals/Students in Ukraine as on 25 February 2022.@MEAIndia @PIB_India @DDNewslive @PIBHindi @DDNational @IndianDiplomacy @PMOIndia pic.twitter.com/79124Ks0Sm— India in Ukraine (@IndiainUkraine) February 25, 2022Later, sources said that “MEA Camp Offices” have been made operational in Lviv and Chernivtsi towns in western Ukraine.
