According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, which cited local authorities in southern Hormozgan province, an area near Sirik, on the Strait of Hormuz, was targeted by US airstrikes around 1:30 AM on Sunday. The US expanded its strikes to degrade Iran’s ability to restrict the traffic of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the US Central Command. The waterway accounted for roughly 20% of global oil supplies before the war but Iran’s effective closure of the strait for shipping traffic has had a significant impact on global economies.Meanwhile, minutes before the US announced troop deaths on Saturday, Iran’s supreme leader warned of “unforgettable lessons” if the US keeps attacking the Islamic Republic. The remarks were read out on state TV and attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, who remains unseen since the war began on February 28.Follow updates here. Note that the blog may take a few moments to load.
