New Delhi: Tamil Nadu finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan has announced that the state government will make good on its 2021 poll promise of paying a monthly cash allowance of Rs 1,000 to women homemakers in the state.The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government in Tamil Nadu presented the budget on Monday, March 20.It is yet unclear as to which women homemakers will be eligible for the payment.Indian Express has reported that Rajan, in his speech, said that the scheme will be for “eligible households.” Guidelines for the implementation of the scheme, eligibility criteria and more details will be released soon, the minister said.The scheme has been allocated a total of Rs 7,000 crore.“Women heads of families who have been affected adversely by the steep increase in cooking gas price by the Union government and the overall price rise will greatly benefit from this scheme,” the minister said.
