New Delhi: The station house officer (SHO) of a police station in Bihar’s Gaya was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly demanding sexual favours from a woman for acting on her complaint.The SHO of Delha police station, Sudhir Kumar, also allegedly sent obscene videos and messages to her mobile phone.“The accused policeman was investigating a sexual assault case registered on the complaint of the victim against five people. The victim alleged that whenever she inquired about the progress in her case from him, he demanded sexual favours from her,” Senior Superintendent of Police Harpreet Kaur told reporters.The 23-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped last year in a village that falls under the Delha police station, Indian Express reported. In the chargesheet Kumar filed in a Biharsharif court, he cleared all five accused in the case.As the SHO kept harassing the victim, she lodged a complaint against the policeman. The SHO was arrested after the woman’s complaint was verified and an FIR was registered against him, Kaur said. The woman also provided audio recordings of her conversations with Kumar.Kaur handed over the case to Gaya women’s police station in charge Ravi Ranjana, who found adequate prima facie evidence against Kumar. “We talked to the victim and established the veracity of her audio conversation with the accused police officer. He had threatened her to spoil the case if she did not oblige,” the Indian Express quoted Ranjana as saying.A local court remanded the accused to 14 days judicial custody.
