New Delhi: After the Vadodara police booked a man on Sunday for issuing rape threats to comedian Agrima Joshua – who has been targeted for a joke on the naivety of supporters of the government’s proposed Shivaji statue – Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday announced that the state’s police have also made an arrest in the matter.Deshmukh said that one person was arrested in Maharashtra in addition to the Shubham Mishra, who was arrested by the Vadodara police. The second man was identified as Umesh Jadhav alias Imtiaz Shaikh, who was arrested under various sections of the IPC including criminal intimidation and obscenity.However, the home minister was adamant that further action will be taken against the comedian after ‘proper legal consultation’. He also claimed that Joshua had made ‘offensive comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’, though she did not make any comments on the Maratha ruler at all.We have arrested some people who were posting offensive material online against women. An investigation is underway.
