Students at Jamia Millia Islamia are protesting alleged irregularities and a lack of transparency in the university’s 2026 admission process. The students are demanding transparency in merit and waiting lists, spot admissions, reservation policies, vacancy numbers and scorecards. They also allege that higher-ranked candidates have been denied admission while lower-ranked candidates were admitted, and are calling for an independent inquiry into the process. After a two-day sit-in was removed by university security on August 26, with several students subsequently suspended and barred from campus, students marched to the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) office on September 1 seeking a response to their memorandum.
