On Thursday evening, students from various colleges and universities in the capital organised a candlelight march outside IIT-Delhi to express their solidarity and demand justice for Ayush Ashna, a Dalit student who died by suicide on July 9.Student organisations like the All India Students Federation, Ambedkar Students Collective, and BAPSA participated in this peaceful protest.The final year B.Tech student was found dead in his hostel room ten days ago. A few months before this, another Dalit student named Darshan Solanki died by suicide at IIT Mumbai, leading to protests.IITs have repeatedly faced allegations of caste-based discrimination on campus.The Wire spoke to the students at IIT Delhi, who firmly believe that Ayush’s death was not a suicide but a “murder”. They are calling for a detailed inquiry into the matter.Students highlighted the discrimination faced by Dalit, tribal, and OBC students not only in the IITs but also in many other renowned educational institutions across the country.
