“The administration is withholding $255 million in assistance to Pakistan. There are clear reasons for this. Pakistan has played a double game for years,” US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said.
According to diplomatic sources, Trump’s tweet could be a sign that US was serious about its ‘deadlines’ given to Pakistan taking action against the Taliban and Haqqani network.
“You want us to sniff them out, we will do that. You want us to take action against them, whatever action you propose, we will do that… (but) these hollow allegations are not acceptable.”
Trump accused Pakistan of harbouring “agents of chaos” and providing safe havens to militant groups waging an insurgency against the US backed government in Kabul.
The announcement comes over a week after US President Donald Trump hit out at Pakistan for providing a safe haven for terror groups that kill Americans in Afghanistan.
Blocking of military reimbursement to Pakistan for its failure to act against the Haqqani network is in line with trend of the Obama administration to gradually scale down funds to the South Asian country.
