Watch: Shams Aalam, a Paralympic Swimmer, Criticises Nitish Kumar Over Discrimination

Shams Aalam is Bihar’s first-ever World Para Swimming Championship qualifier. He earned four gold medals and a bronze medal in the 2016 Can-Am Para Swimming Championships in Gatineau, Quebec, in 2018. He also competed in the 2018 Asian Para Games, which were held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

For participating in major international competitions, the Bihar government awards each athlete Rs 2 lakh. Despite representing India in the 2018 Asian Para Games, Aalam was only awarded Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 2 lakh.
