Taran Khan, author of the book Shadow City: A Woman Walks Kabul, has fond memories of the city and its people. She visited Kabul frequently between 2006 and 2013 and saw local Afghans start out with great optimism and then gradually lose hope about what would happen to their country. Some of them left.Though violent incidents and killings did take place in Kabul too, “I generally felt safe.” She ventured out alone all the time, even though well-meaning friends advised her not too. She discovered its nooks and crannies and the many sweet, human stories in the city, she says in this podcast interview with Sidharth Bhatia.
