Karachi: Pakistan has received 101,000 tonnes of Russian oil till now, after the second consignment of crude arrived in Pakistani port of Karachi last Tuesday.Dawn reported that the tanker Clyde Noble berthed at the port on Tuesday with around 56,000 tonnes. Earlier this month, oil tanker Pure Point transported 45,142 tonnes of Russian crude oil, which was delivered to Pakistan Refinery Limited.According to an oil industry expert quoted by the newspaper, the arrival of the “Russian crude is actually a test run and it has been imported for technical evaluation whether it meets the country’s specification and demand”. Pakistan Refinery Limited will make a report regarding the refining process of the delivered Russian crude, which is expected to be completed within a month.The newspaper pointed out that Pakistan was not buying the oil under any special discount, as clarified earlier by the Russian energy minister Nikolay Shulginov.Till now, there has been no price cut in the retail price of oil in Pakistan due to the arrival of Russian oil. As per the Pakistani oil industry expert, it is hard to predict any price cut in petrol and diesel in the next petroleum price review, as Russian crude is being blended with Arabian crude to make various products.Another unnamed oil industry executive stated that the likelihood of a price reduction in diesel and petrol is minimal starting from July 1. The Pakistan government has recently increased the petroleum development levy (PDL) on these products by Pakistani rupees 10 per litre, further reducing the prospects of a price cut.
