New Delhi: Two village defence force (VDF) volunteers were found dead in Manipur this weekend – one Saturday (February 10) and one on Sunday (February 11).One police party accompanied by villagers found the body of Ningthoujam Manisana (35) in a hill ravine in Imphal East district on Sunday morning, The Hindu reported. A volunteer with the VDF at Sangaithel village, and his family had filed a missing persons’ report on February 9 and losing contact with Manisana on February 7.Manisana’s body had multiple bullet injuries.The body of 26-year-old N. Oken was found on Saturday night inside a utility vehicle outside in JN Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. He was a VDF volunteer for Kadangband village in Imphal East district, according to The Hindu. His body has not been claimed by anyone so far and has been sent for post-mortem.Ethnic violence that began in Manipur on May 3 last year has claimed at least 210 lives so far, and left tens of thousands displaced. The strife between the Meitei and Kuki communities has not thawed, with the state now virtually divided into Kuki areas and Meitei areas.
