New Delhi: A blast occurred outside the residence of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Thursday evening, according to a report by Economic Times. No one was injured in the incident. Per the report, the blast was caused by a hand grenade. The incident occurred at around 8:15 pm near the gate of Singh’s residence at Bishnunaha in Yairipok in the Wangkhem Assembly constituency, the Deccan Chronicle reported. The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the perpetrator, or the motive behind the attack, the reports said. No group has taken responsibility for the attack so far.“We, the Meira Paibi of Yairipok Bishnunaha, strongly condemn the bomb blast in the residential area. Such acts of violence are unacceptable at a time when people of the state have already been suffering for the past few years,” the ET report quoted a local woman as saying.The police have conducted a preliminary investigation and a forensic examination of the site is underway, reported Deccan Chronicle.Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh condemned the attack. In a social media post on X on Thursday, the Chief Minister’s Office said that “such acts of violence against elected representatives are unacceptable and will not be tolerated”.The Congress said that while the Modi government’s PR machinery paints a picture of all being well in Manipur, the ground reality tells a very different story. “If the home of an elected political leader is not safe, what security can an ordinary citizen expect? Manipur cannot be hidden behind PR stunts and manufactured narratives. The people of Manipur deserve peace, security and justice. The government must act swiftly, identify those responsible, and ensure that such attacks do not go unanswered,” the party said in a post on X.
