New Delhi: Two Uttar Pradesh police personnel and two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Hasanpur Kotwali area in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. As per reports, the 23-year-old woman from Haryana’s Fatehabad lodged a complaint with the police saying that she was gang raped by a police sub-inspector and a constable and two CRPF personnel late Tuesday (September 22) night. On Sunday (September 20), a female acquaintance of the woman allegedly asked her to meet CRPF inspector Mohit, a resident of Saurang village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, to visit religious places in Amroha, according to Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav. On Monday (September 21), she allegedly met Mohit in Haryana’s Sonipat and went with him to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, where CRPF head constable Lalaram Yadav, a resident of Rajasthan’s Alwar, joined them.On Tuesday evening, the woman along with the two CRPF personnel allegedly went to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road in a car while picking up sub-inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way. In the farmhouse, they rented two rooms and police head constable Pramod arranged food and liquor for the men, as per the complaint.Later in the evening, Mohit, Lalaram and Sanjay allegedly took turns to rape her. Eventually when Pramod entered the room and allegedly attempted to rape her, she pushed him out, locked the door and searched the police helpline number online. As per reports, police teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur reached the farmhouse and apprehended all the four accused after receiving a call from the woman around 6 am on Wednesday.“A detailed probe is underway to clarify the specific roles played by each individual in the sequence of events, from bringing the woman from Meerut to Hasanpur to the alleged crime itself. Currently, all four accused are in police custody,” Amroha Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Bhadauria said.Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh also mentioned that action will be taken against each of the accused based on their specific roles.“Late at night on September 22-23, the Hasanpur police received information from a woman that she has been subjected to a forced sexual act at a farmhouse. A case was registered. All the accused have been taken into custody and are currently being interrogated. Legal action will be taken against each individual based on the specific role revealed during the investigation. They will be produced before the court,” Lakhan Singh said. The farmhouse where the alleged gang rape incident took place reportedly belongs to an independent MLA from Uttarakhand.Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav wrote on X that the “gang rape” has left “such a stain on the police that no one’s patronage can ever wipe it clean”.“In a regime whose rule itself rests on crime, even its police become corrupt in every possible way. The gang rape of a young woman in Amroha has left such a stain on the police that no one’s patronage can ever wipe it clean. Let there be historic action!” Yadav said.
