New Delhi: Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, his wife, author and philanthropist Rohini Nilekani, son Nihar Nilekani and daughter Janhavi Nandan Nilekani’s names are included in the discrepancy list published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka. Even scientist and Bharat Ratna C.N.R. Rao, Kannada actor Shivaraj Kumar and Zerodha founders Nikhil Kamath and Nithin Kamath and Padma Shri awardee and social activist Harekala Hajabba’s names feature in the list.The reason listed for discrepancy in case of the Nilekani couple and their children is “unmapped with last SIR” meaning current entries couldn’t be matched with the 2002 exercise. This is the same reason marked for Shivaraj Kumar as well. In case of the Kamath brothers, “parent name mismatch” is mentioned as the reason for discrepancy. In July this year, post former education minister Dharmedra Pradhan’s resignation following youth protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Nandan Nilekani will head a High Powered Task Force on “revamping examinations by NTA [National Testing Agency].”On Wednesday (September 9), the official X handle of the chief electoral officer (CEO), Karnataka posted a press note issued by the additional district election officer (ADEO), BBMP North district clarifying that a discrepancy was noted under “self-name mismatch” in the case of Rao but no notice was physically delivered to him and his name was directly added to the final rolls on Tuesday noting “his stature and contribution”. The handle also posted pictures of officials felicitating Rao at his residence.“Respected Bharat Ratna Awardee Professor C.N.R. Rao is a voter from Part No 59 in 157 – Malleswaram Assembly Constituency as per current draft voter list. As per Current Draft Voter List the Name appears as “Proff C.N.R. Rao S/O Nagesh Rav. H” where as in 2002 Voter List the name appears as “Rama S/O H. Nagesh”,” the note mentioned.It added: “During SIR process, enumeration form was respectfully handed over to him at his residence by the State SVEEP Nodal Officer, Commissioner, Bengaluru West City Corporation, ERO – Malleswaram and BLO of Part No 59. Since, we are aware of his stature and contribution, we did not serve any notice to him or to his family members. BLO without serving any notice to him rightfully recommended for final approval to the Additional Electoral Registration Officer appointed for the purpose. In order to correct his name, officials visited and collected the documents from him. Further, the poll body mentioned that the hearing will be conducted by electoral registration officers (EROs)/assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) statewide till October 12 to resolve mismatches in names, ages, family relationships, among other things.As on September 4, there are 4,46,38,124 electors in the draft electoral roll in Karnataka. Around 1.07 crore names were deleted from the draft roll published in August end at the end of the enumeration phase as a part of the SIR process.
