Jamia Millia Islamia MPhil scholar, Safoora Zargar, has alleged that the university is cancelling her admission by not extending the time allotted to her for submitting her thesis.The UGC in May 2022 ruled that universities and other higher education Institutions may grant additional extensions for up to six months beyond the deadline of June 30 for submission of MPhil or PhD theses, following evaluation of a student’s work.This was the fifth COVID-19 extension given to academics. But Safoora, a prominent anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protester who spent months in jail while pregnant, has alleged that Jamia is refusing to grant her an additional extension.
