New Delhi: A day after lakhs of protestors participating in the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in New Delhi, called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), were brutally lathi charged and tear gassed by the Delhi Police, the crowd swelled in Jantar Mantar on Tuesday (July 21) evening. On Monday (July 20), the Delhi Police dismantled the main stage and other surrounding setups at the protest site. However, despite the police crackdown, thousands of young protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar and the surrounding areas, especially near the Connaught Place side later in the evening. Many of them were angry over the Delhi Police’s use of force against peaceful protestors. On Tuesday, several protesters carried placards and posters criticising the police and the Narendra Modi government. Around 8.30 pm, long queues, stretching nearly 50–70 meters, formed outside Jantar Mantar as people waited to enter the protest site. The crowd continued to gather through the evening as many expressed their support for the movement through posters and slogans which aptly captured the mood and spirit of the protestors.A protestor reminds Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his 2014 poll promise of ‘Achhe Din’ (good days) which never arrived even after 12 years.
