New Delhi: Internet services have been suspended today, September 28, in and around Lovely Professional University in Phagwara amid protests following an allegation of rape and alleged inaction by the university authorities.A day ago, on September 27, hundreds of agitated students ransacked the university and torched vehicles.The students also blocked the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway or National Highway-44, where heavy police force was deployed.Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is reported to have directed Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav to visit the spot today, the Chief Minister’s Office has announced.The university has been closed for 10 days from today, and it has postponed mid-term examinations until further notice.LPU is a private university owned by BJP Rajya Sabha MP, Ashok Mittal, who is its founder and chancellor. Mittal was earlier an AAP MP but joined the BJP in April this year.Note: This is a breaking news story.
