Around 100 Kashmiri students study at the institution.Nasir Khuehami, national convenor of the J&K Students Association, alleged that the college security had remained passive during the entire incident and did not intervene or protect the students. “Even more concerning is the fact that Punjab Police did not provide timely protection or assistance, further emboldening the attackers and leaving students vulnerable and traumatised,” he said.Director General of Police Punjab Gaurav Yadav said they had taken cognisance of the matter through social media and directed the local police to initiate appropriate legal action as per law. “Any attempt to incite hatred, disturb communal harmony will not be tolerated. We appeal to all citizens to act responsibly on social media. Please refrain from sharing or amplifying content that spreads misinformation or fuels discord,” said the DGP.Khuehami also said that landlords in UP’s Prayagraj were asking Kashmiri students and youth studying and working in the city to immediately vacate their places, citing security reasons. “Some have already left under pressure. This is alarming. Prayagraj is a sensitive region, and there are growing fears of harassment and profiling,” said Khuehami. He also said that the association had received distress calls from Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra where Kashmiri students were allegedly being harassed, abused and physically attacked by Hindutva and fringe elements. “Hostel doors are being forcefully broken down, and students are being intimidated, labelled as ‘Atankwadi’ (terrorists), and coerced to vacate their accommodation under threats and violence,” said Khuehami. The youth activist alleged that the “silence” of local authorities was “enabling this reign of fear.” “This is not just a security issue; it is a deliberate and targeted campaign of hate and vilification against students from a particular region and identity. It reflects a dangerous collapse of law and order, emboldening mobs and right-wing elements to act with impunity,” Khuehami said.In Uttarakhand, an extremist outfit Hindu Raksha Dal issued an open threat to Muslim Kashmiri students in the state.Incident Number 4th.Hindu Raksha Dal has issued an open threat to Muslim Kashmiri students studying in the state just now, vowing to ‘pick them up one by one’.
