New Delhi: Junaid Malik, who was a food volunteer during the recent protests in Jantar Mantar led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has moved Supreme Court alleging that police officials illegally detained and harassed him along with his family members who had to face coercive police action without due process, reported LiveLaw.Malik has said in his petition that he was picked up by police officials on July 24 midnight, while he was returning from the RML hospital after taking anti rabies injection. Thereafter, he was allegedly picked up by police personnel from Delhi and kept inside a vehicle for six hours, wherein he was threatened and intimidated, Malik has said in the petition.Malik has said that the officials forcefully took his mobile phone away, made him unlock it and then questioned him about who was funding him and from where he got the funds for food supplies.The petition alleges that Junaid was later dropped at a remote location on the Dehradun road after 5-6 hours and he had to return to Delhi by taking a cab from Dehradun.Malik has also accused the Ghaziabad Police of detaining his father and conducting a raid at his residence.As per the petition, the police also visited the Meerut residence of his married sister and allegedly took away her father-in-law and brother-in-law who were later released.During the CJP protests, Malik was widely appreciated by students and youth for providing free food to the protesters at Jantar Mantar. Thousands of comments on social media too had praised him for regularly feeding those gathered at the protest site.In his petition, Junaid has alleged that during the police raid at his home, several household articles were damaged, and has said that such coercive action against him was taken without any paperwork or compliance with the procedure established by law.In his plea, Malik has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court and prayed for directions restraining the police from taking any further coercive action against his family members and ensuring that any investigation is conducted strictly in accordance with law, reported LiveLaw.The application has been filed through Advocate-on-Record Neha Rathi in the writ petition filed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha, seeking action against police violence during the CJP protests.
