New Delhi: The national capital has been turned into a fortress amid the ongoing protest against the chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10, with tens of thousands of security forces deployed, metro stations closed and protesters indiscriminately detained for merely trying to reach the protest location. Huge metal barricades have been erected by the Delhi Police, blocking all possible roads to Jantar Mantar, which has served as the focal point for recent agitations against the government.Police and paramilitary personnel have been stationed behind these barricades, preventing pedestrian movement along with vehicular traffic. As a result, barely any protester has been able to reach Jantar Mantar, the designated site for today’s protest as declared by the currently-detained Cockroach Janta Party and All India Students’ Association representatives. However, protesters assembled at multiple locations in Delhi and chanted slogans.Security personnel detain an activist during a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities, at Connaught Place, in New Delhi, Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026.
