New Delhi: The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will meet on Monday, July 6, at Ayodhya, according to a report by The Indian Express. One of the main agendas of the meeting is to decide on the resignations of its general secretary Champat Rai and trust member Anil Mishra.Both had submitted their resignations to the Trust on June 27, following the alleged misappropriation of funds at the Ram temple in Ayodhya – an issue that came to light after three complaints alleging this were filed at the Ram Janmbhoomi police station of Ayodhya between June 16 and 18.At the meeting – which is to be presided over by Trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das – the Trust will decide on Rai and Mishra’s resignations. As per reports, Das had been under treatment for health concerns in a private hospital in Lucknow, but returned to Ayodhya on Friday.“The meeting has been called around 3pm at Mani Ram Das Chhavani (Mahant Gopal Das-headed ashram), like in the past. The development was communicated verbally and no official statement has been issued on it yet. This is the first meeting after the recent controversy and the decision on the resignations of the two office-bearers and on who will manage the temple’s day-to-day affairs for the time being will be taken. Other issues will also be taken up,” Express quoted an unnamed member of the Trust as saying.Per the report, the Trust will also discuss the preliminary report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is currently probing the issue, and decide who will be in charge of the temple’s day-to-day affairs till the SIT submits its report. According to Deccan Herald, the question of whether to appoint a CEO to manage the Ram Temple affairs will also come up for discussion. Per the report, other points in the meeting agenda (issued by treasurer Govind Dev Giri) include a discussion of the unaudited income-expenses statement and balance sheet for the financial year 2025-26, other financial details and their approval.Two ongoing investigations have been launched to look into the allegations of fund misappropriation at the Ayodhya Ram temple: one is being conducted by the SIT, and another by the police. Both the SIT and police have recorded statements of these three senior Trust officials, as per DH. Rai, a veteran VHP leader, has reportedly admitted to investigators that he was aware of the Ayodhya temple donation misappropriation before the matter entered the public domain. He allegedly told local police while he was being questioned that not lodging a First Information Report immediately upon discovering the crime was a mistake.Lawyers from the Faizabad Bar Association have submitted a written complaint to the police seeking an FIR against Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, and special invitee of the Trust Gopal Rao. However, as per DH, no FIR has still been registered against the Trust functionaries.Following the SIT’s preliminary report, eight persons named in an FIR have been arrested. Per DH, though all eight were remanded to a 14-day judicial custody till July 23, police later got custody remand of Avinash Shukla, one of the key accused; per the report, the police had unearthed “important evidence” linked to the funds misappropriation from Shukla’s house in Ayodhya.
