New Delhi: The Faizabad Bar Association in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya district has said that if an FIR is not lodged against Ram Mandir Trust’s former general secretary Champat Rai, former trustee Anil Mishra and temple official Gopal Rao, the lawyers’ body will resort to protest again, reported the Economic Times.A delegation of representatives from the bar association met senior superintendent of police Gaurav Grover and reiterated their early demand that an FIR be registered against top management in connection with the alleged embezzlement of funds related to temple donation.As reported by The Wire earlier, on July 2, 2026, a complaint was submitted at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi police station in Ayodhya on behalf of the members of the bar association who had protested that day as well. The complaint had stated that the union and its members were “very hurt by the theft of devotee’s donation money and valuables” and were submitting a written complaint for the “Rs 10 lakh stolen by Champat Rai, Rs 58 lakh stolen by Anil Mishra and Gopal Ji which was recovered before the FIR was filed, and for the money and jewellery stolen by trustee Krishna Mohan which was kept hidden to lead the investigation astray.” In its ground report from Ayodhya, The Wire had also spoken with some lawyers affiliated with the bar association to understand the rationale behind their collective decision of not representing any of the eight accused arrested in this case so far. “Considering what has been happening in Ayodhya, people now look at us with disdain”, advocate Raj Kapoor Singh, whose video demanding that Rai and others leave the city of Ayodhya had gone viral, told The Wire then. According to the Economic Times report, at the recent general body meeting of the bar association, its president Kalika Prasad Mishra alleged “the government and the administration are protecting the three and giving them a clean chit.”Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, a body, which since its inception in February 2020, has been dominated by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) continues to be mired in controversies with a recent nine-page letter reportedly written by Rai doing the rounds, making certain claims about the dominant role played by trustee and former adviser to PM Modi, Nripendra Misra.
