On December 16, every year, the parents of the woman who was brutally gang-raped and left for dead, known as ‘Nirbhaya’, hold an event to remember their lost child, and try to bring together people to discuss how such crimes can be prevented.In 2017, the rightwing student group ABVP, who have used this issue for pushing their brand of politics, disrupted this event. Their violent behaviour is in line with the many occasions where they have done similar things – with complete disregard and disrespect for people and their causes.
