New Delhi: The defence ministry appears to have opened a fresh can of worms after it was found that permission had been granted to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) – BJP’s youth wing – to host its national convention at the Bison Polo Ground in Secunderabad Cantonment in Hyderabad between October 23 and 28.Furious over the allowing the use of army grounds, several servicemen took to social media to voice their concerns and anger. The note dated October 13 from the office of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) that grants permission to BJYM to hold its national convention. And yes we are as much responsible. I miss the good old ‘NO’ .— Major Vinay Marks (@MajorVinayMarks) October 14, 2018It is a bad and sad that the army resources r being used by political parties. It will also become a bad precedent.— Sudhakar Chopra (@sudhakarchopra) October 13, 2018But in a counter point, one serviceman says that army grounds are public property.Well , the logic is that it is not the army’s private property and the people have a right to use its assets. Thank God the vehicles the barracks, langar and messes has not been leased so far . Someone is yet to come up with this idea sir— Col DPK Pillay, Shaurya Chakra,PhD (@dpkpillay12) October 14, 2018After one social media user asked former Union minister Shashi Tharoor to join the debate, Tharoor tweeted:Disgraceful. Since when has the #IndianArmy become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BJP? https://t.co/qDV9tItyNQ— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) October 14, 2018
