New Delhi: Bhim Army chief, Chandra Shekar Aazad, who was undergoing treatment for a bullet injury, was discharged from Saharanpur district hospital on Thursday, June 29.According to the Indian Express, a senior officer from the Saharanpur Police said that they have already detained a few suspects and are also examining available video footage from the crime site to nab the accused.Aazad was shot at by unidentified assailants in Saharanpur’s Deoband on Wednesday, June 28 evening, when he had gone there to attend a ritual at a supporter’s home. A bullet grazed his abdomen. He was in his car when the attack took place, and his party worker Manish was behind the wheel.The police seized a car used by Aazad’s attackers from Miragpur village in Saharanpur late on Wednesday night. PTI reported that the number plate of the vehicle showed that it was registered in Haryana, quoting the police.The police also arrested one Vimlesh Singh from Amethi, who allegedly ran a Facebook page called ‘Kshatriya of Amethi’ which posted content threatening Aazad. “We have registered a case under Section 66A (sending offensive messages through communication service) of IT Act and Section 506 (criminal intimidation). Further legal action is being taken,” CO, Gauriganj, Mayank Dwivedi said, according to Indian Express.After being discharged from the hospital, Aazad alleged that there is a complete breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh and demanded the resignation of chief minister Yogi Adityanath.In a statement, he said such attacks can happen on heads of any other political parties and their supporters too. He identified two reasons for such a situation. “The law and order situation in UP is getting worse, and the government is providing protection to criminals on the basis of caste and religion, due to which government-backed criminals are in high spirits,” he said.He demanded the resignation of Adityanath on the grounds of moral responsibility. “The fatal attack on me is the failure of the government because the security of the people of the state is the government’s responsibility. Accepting the moral responsibility of giving protection to fearless criminals in the state, the Chief Minister should resign with immediate effect.”The Bhim Army chief also alleged that central agencies are being misused under the Narendra Modi government with an aim to silence voices of dissent. “Government-backed criminals have started attacking with guns and bullets to eliminate Opposition leaders. They are forgetting that India’s history is replete with sacrifices…they are forgetting that even today our Bahujan Samaj is working to protect this country by giving their lives on the borders…. I am part of the same society,” he added.Wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia met Aazad in the hospital on Thursday and demanded the arrest of Aazad’s attackers. “Today only those fighting for the truth are being attacked. Our only demand is that the attackers should be arrested at the earliest,” said Punia, according to Hindustan Times.Further, he added, “Chandra Shekhar is not the leader of any one society, but of the whole society and stands with every person who is fighting for the truth. Be it the farmer’s movement or the fight of the wrestlers.”Meanwhile, the government approved training camps abroad for Punia and Vinesh Phogat. They are scheduled to leave for training in the first week of July. Punia will fly out to Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan for a 36-day training camp. Phogat, who is a two-time World Championships medallist, will first train in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, for a week and then proceed to Tata, Hungary, for an 18-day training camp, Telegraph reported.
