New Delhi: A case has been registered here against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Nizamabad Dharmapuri Arvind for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Telangana chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.The case was registered at Saroornagar police station on Wednesday, July 20, based on a complaint of an advocate, who accused the Lok Sabha member of using derogatory and abusive words against the chief minister of Telangana at a press meet along with BJP party cadre in Hyderabad on July 13, a police release said.“During the press meet, the BJP MP abused the Telangana chief minister and the disparaging words used against such a respected person amounts to degrading his image in public at large in order to incite disaffection towards the government,” the complainant alleged.“The words were intentionally meant against the Telangana CM, to create a feeling of enmity, the advocate said and sought legal action against Arvind,” police said.Based on the complaint, after taking permission from a local court, a case under Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered. An investigation is underway, police said, adding, “We will issue notice.”The Nizamabad MP, known for his scathing criticism of the ruling TRS and chief minister KCR, came under the attack of ruling party supporters in the past too.On July 15, Arvind’s convoy was obstructed in Eradandi village of Jagityal district by villagers when he tried to visit flood-affected areas. Tension prevailed when TRS and BJP workers clashed. Police had to intervene to escort the MP to safety. The BJP accused TRS of instigating villagers, according to Deccan Herald.Arvind wrested the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency from K. Kavitha, chief minister KCR’s daughter, in the 2019 general election.The political temperature in Telangana has gone up by several notches since the BJP has begun making an aggressive push to position itself as the principal challenger to the TRS.(With PTI inputs)
