New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik has accused the Union government of downgrading his security cover because he supported the farmers during their protest against the three farm laws and was opposed to the Agnipath military recruitment scheme. In an interview with India Today, Malik said that instead of Z+ security cover, a personal security officer would now be deployed for his security. “I would like to say that I am not joining any political party. I am not a political person. But if something happens to me, please come to Delhi,” Malik said, according to the magazine. After his stint as J&K governor, Malik also served as the governor of Goa and Meghalaya. His term as Meghalaya governor ended in October 2022.Malik told India Today that the security cover of N.N. Vohra, who preceded him as J&K governor, was still intact. He has written to the home ministry about the downgrade but did not receive any response about the reason behind the move, he added.India Today reported that while the protocol is to provide lifetime security cover to presidents and prime ministers, security cover is provided to governors and lieutenant governors based on intelligence reports from security agencies.Malik was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir when Article 370 was diluted and its special status revoked. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, noting the development, remarked, “What goes around comes around”. Malik “messed with a lot of peoples’ security”, Abdullah said. What goes around comes around, jaisa karoge vaisa bharoge. He messed with a lot of peoples’ security, including mine & of my senior colleagues. “If something happens to me…” Former JK Guv Satya Pal Malik says his security cover downgraded https://t.co/DKI81oCKkP via @indiatoday— Omar Abdullah (@OmarAbdullah) March 14, 2023
