In Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, five police officers allegedly tortured a Muslim man while he was in custody. Gruesome details have emerged, including that objects were inserted into the man’s rectum and that he was subjected to electric shocks.The man worked as a painter in New Delhi and returned to Uttar Pradesh in April. While the police say he was released after his connection to a crime could not be established, the man’s family has claimed that they had to pay a “bribe” of Rs 5,000 to get him released.A first information report (FIR) was registered against the five police accused of torturing the man.
