New Delhi: A Jasola village slum was demolished on February 1 without what locals say was any prior notice. Residents also note that this slum has been in the area for at least 16 years.Activists of the Khudai Khidmatgar, who visited the site to arrange for blankets and food for the displaced residents, noted that people claimed they have electricity meters and documents to show that they have been receiving government communication on the same address. The Delhi government’s Delhi Slum Policy, 2015, clearly states that slum settlements which came up before 2015 cannot be demolished without providing alternate housing. However, residents are now left in the open with the rains having worsened the situation. All images courtesy of Khudai Khidmatgar.
