New Delhi: All the eight accused who were arrested in connection with the alleged embezzlement of funds at the Ram temple were sent to 14-day judicial custody on Monday (June 29), reported New Indian Express.Special prosecution officer Umesh Dubey said on Monday that the accused were presented before Rajat Verma, special judge, anti-corruption court through video conferencing from the district jail after the expiry of their three-day judicial custody.The accused were produced before Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Rajat Verma, through video conferencing from the district jail, after the expiry of their three-day judicial custody, Special Prosecution Officer Umesh Dubey said.After the district police didn’t apply for further custody, all eight accused — Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu, Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Manish Yadav, Lavkush Mishra, Ram Shankar Mishra and Subhash Srivastava – were sent to 14-day judicial custody and the case was posted for next hearing on July 13.Meanwhile, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday defended former members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust Champat Rai and Anil Mishra and said that they had voluntarily resigned to ensure a fair investigation in the case.The VHP also said that the Trust itself had been pushing for a fair probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple and after it hadEarlier, Rai who was the Trust’s general secretary, and member Anil Mishra resigned from their posts on June 27, two days after an FIR was registered in the case.“The FIR was filed on the formal complaint of Trust leading to the immediate arrest of eight individuals involved in the handling and counting of temple offerings. Champat Rai ji and Anil Mishra ji voluntarily stepped aside and tendered their resignations to facilitate a completely fair and independent investigation,” VHP international president Alok Kumar, reported Press Trust of India.On the other hand, a radio maintenance officer posted at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya for 17 years, has been transferred to Gorakhpur, reported Times of India.Arjun Dev Singh, who was posted in Ayodhya since 2009, maintained the temple’s wireless communication network, CCTV surveillance system and control room operations. He also coordinated communication arrangements during major religious events and VVIP visits linked to the temple complex.The TOI report said citing sources that while Singh was transferred in 2024 around the consecration of the Ram Temple, but the move was deferred after the Trust and senior administrative officials sought his continuity.The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing severe criticism over the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.The first information report (FIR) registered by the Uttar Pradesh police on the issue says that in the preliminary investigation by the special investigation team (SIT) that was constituted earlier, it has clearly come to light that some of those involved in counting of the money received as offerings by the temple have engaged in embezzling the funds in a well-planned and criminal manner.
