New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday (August 13) said it was “alarming” that China was stopping Indian forces from patrolling in Arunachal Pradesh, questioning what the prime minister and his top colleagues were doing about it.“You know what is happening? I get information from Modi ji‘s office. A full revolt is on. China is preventing us from patrolling our areas in Arunachal Pradesh. Rajnath Singh (defence minister), Amit Shah (home minister) and Narendra Modi (prime minister) have been knocked off their stride. What are they doing? They are calling up media editors and trying to suppress this news,” Gandhi alleged at a Congress event in Delhi. “They are damaging the country’s reputation,” he said. उल्टा मोदी सरकार चीन को रोकने के बजाय इस खबर को रोकने के लिए मीडिया पर… pic.twitter.com/gPK3JpeJ8b— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) August 14, 2026Gandhi’s allegations come amid reports regarding Chinese troops denying access to Indian forces for patrolling near Taksing, in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.Recently, a regional fact-finding team also raised concerns about Chinese activity in designated Indian patrolling points, including the Shera 5 Point, further stating that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were steadily expanding control over Indian grazing and hunting grounds along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).Referring to the 2020-21 clashes between India and China along the LAC in Galwan Valley, Ladakh, the Congress MP alleged that at the time, the prime minister weakened the national cause by denying any Chinese intrusion.“The Army is saying that land has been taken but the Chinese negotiator says that your Prime Minister is saying it is not so. So, they have destroyed the country internally, foreign policy has been destroyed and they have done this to finance their political structure and take money from Mr Adani,” Gandhi said at the event. He further slammed Modi, saying hugging world leaders ‘was not equal to foreign policy and reinforcing Indian interests’, adding that Modi was also left to watch how Pakistan walked away with the mediator’s role in the US-Iran conflict.Urging the people not to be fearful of fighting the Modi government and BJP, Gandhi said, “We won’t let Narendra Modi and Amit Shah sleep until they resign.”The Congress had also released a statement on Thursday saying it was “deeply alarmed and gravely concerned” by the reports regarding Chinese troops denying access to Indian forces, seeking an address from Modi regarding these concerns.Government sources cited by Economic Times, have denied any signs of encroachment in Arunachal Pradesh by China as alleged. So far, the Indian Army and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu have also denied the claims of Chinese activity and rejected the reports of intrusion at Indian patrolling points along the border.Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that India considers matters relating to border areas with China as “most serious” and asserted that maintaining peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control is of “utmost importance”, without specifically addressing the reports.China, on Wednesday, reportedly said the situation along the Sino-India border is “generally stable at the moment” while declining to comment on reports of stepped-up Chinese military activity near the Arunachal Pradesh border.Arunachal shares a nearly 1,200-kilometre-long border with Tibet. However, due to the un-demarcated border, at times, Indian and Chinese patrols face off with each other.
