We have not even been told where we are being taken. Our clothes have been torn. We have been treated very poorly by the police. Our demands are very clear: We will not allow attacks on students; we will not allow (police) cases against students; Dharmendra Pradhan must resign; the home minister must apologise and he must resign and the prime minister must apologise to students and their parents and resign.”)The leaders have been protesting ever since the police used violent tactics against students and youth during their march to parliament on Monday (July 20).मोदी की तानाशाही देखिए।देश के नेता विपक्ष के साथ ऐसा सुलूक किया जा रहा है।शर्मनाक! pic.twitter.com/mPvojsUnbA— Congress (@INCIndia) July 21, 2026Earlier on Tuesday, minister of state for science and technology Jitendra Singh had criticised Rahul Gandhi’s demand for Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, saying it was “not done” for the Leader of the Opposition to seek the minister’s removal.Congress hit back, with Khera saying in a post on X that the Modi government considered it was “done” for young people to die by suicide over a single examination and for repeated paper leaks to occur, but apparently considered it “not done” to demand the resignation of a “failed and incompetent” education minister [Dharmendra Pradhan, whose resignation is the primary demand of the Cockroach Janata Party protesters against exam irregularities].The Congress party also pointed out that the issue was no longer confined to the functioning of the education system under Pradhan, but also concerned the police action against protesting students, sparking the protests by the Congress. It argued that responsibility extended to Union home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and called for an unconditional apology to students as well as a thorough and impartial investigation into the alleged police excesses.Congress leaders along with Rahul Gandhi were seen being driven away to another undisclosed location, with people asking the driver about their destination and being told “Model Town”. Later it was revealed that Rahul Gandhi was dropped off by police at Chhatrasal Stadium in north Delhi. The other members of parliament picked up by police were taken to Kingsway Camp, also in north Delhi.Government sources said the situation is unprecedented, as no Leader of Opposition has protested outside the prime minister’s house before. According to them, the police decided to remove the leaders from the site, calling them a “security threat”.
