New Delhi: “In the last ten years, an exam paper has been leaked almost every month. Yet, those running these rackets have not been punished”, said Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, while interacting with students in the “Chhatron ki Goonj’ programme in Dehradun on Friday (July 17).According to the New Indian Express, Gandhi also told the gathering that over the last ten years, 152 examination papers had been leaked impacting nearly 7.5 crore aspirants. The conviction rate, however, in such cases remained “zero”.“A NEET paper can be bought for Rs 40 lakh, an IIT-JEE paper for Rs 15 lakh, an Uttarakhand patwari recruitment paper for Rs 15 lakh, a job in Bihar for Rs 10 lakh and a sub-inspector paper in Odisha for Rs 25 lakh”, Gandhi was quoted as saying during this interaction, an initiative launched by the Congress party to reach out to the youth in the backdrop of growing furore over NEET paper leak in May this year, followed by 14 student suicides till mid-June. Three demands have been put forth on behalf of Gandhi as part of the ongoing “Chhatron ki Goonj” initiative which include: reassessment and repair of the exam system, resignation of the Union education minister, and institutionalisation of an annual exam and recruitment calendar.
