New Delhi: The Delhi Police may have granted permission for the the INDIA bloc’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ rally at the Ramlila Maidan on November 1 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, but no permission has been sought for the march from Connaught Place (CP) to the Maidan, Hindustan Times reported. The report quoted unnamed senior police officials who said, on Friday (October 30), that neither New Delhi nor the central district has been informed of or approached for permission for the march from CP to Ramila Maidan. On Friday, PTI had reported that Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had said that the INDIA bloc’s November 1 march would begin at noon from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction. Per the report, Gandhi gave this information during an ‘Ask Me’ session on the social media platform Instagram. This live session is currently posted on his profile. Previously, in separate reels, Gandhi had urged people, including students, regardless of their political affiliations to join the INDIA bloc’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ rally, assuring them to not worry about the police and their “lathis”. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) “will not have the guts to try any of their antics”, he had said, adding that the march was aimed at “saving democracy” and putting an end to vote theft. His latest social media post, from Saturday (October 31), lists a map-based illustration of the route for the march, clearly indicating that it will begin at the Minto Road junction and then move towards Ajmeri Gate, before finally reaching Ramlila Maidan. Police officers declined HT’s requests for comments on whether the march would be prevented.“We cannot comment anything in advance on the alleged proposed march that has been announced for November. The entire situation is being monitored, and required measures would be taken as and when required,” the newspaper quoted one of the officers as saying. Deputy commissioners of police of both districts – Rohit Rajbir Singh (Central), and Sachin Sharma (New Delhi) – also confirmed that they had not been approached or informed about the march. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and All-India Students’ Association’s Neha Bora have both lent support to the INDIA bloc’s protest on November 1.
