New Delhi: The opposition in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Odisha have slammed the state’s newly-appointed governor Braj Mohan Ram over the latter’s remarks that he will work to get more votes for the BJP.Ram, who is a leader from a Dalit community and also a former BJP MP from Jharkhand, was appointed to the constitutional post of governor on Monday (October 12).Following his appointment, Ram said that he would work to activate the BJP’s Scheduled Caste (SC) morcha and make efforts to get more votes for the party.“I will see the situation there and will connect people, activate our morcha and organisation and think how BJP will get votes,” Ram told Press Trust of India. The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress have criticised Ram for his remarks.“Whatever his inclination towards constitutional duties may be, such brilliant clarity on his own political perspective is remarkable! Democracy’s new definition – prioritising party interests while holding a constitutional post! Truly admirable! We need exactly such honest and transparent systems! If more Governors like this are appointed, there’s no doubt that our democracy will certainly be strengthened!” said BJD Rajya Sabha member Santrupt Misra, reported Indian Express.Around 17% of Odisha’s population belongs to the scheduled caste (SC) category. The Congress too slammed Ram for openly declaring his allegiance for the BJP after being appointed to a constitutional post.“Newly appointed Odisha Governor, BJP’s Braj Mohan Ram openly declares that he will use his constitutional office to secure more votes and electoral victories for the BJP in Odisha. He has made his intention clear – the party is above the people, the constitution, and the country. That’s why, look carefully, remember his face. This is what a traitor looks like,” Congress Rajya Sabha MP and All India Congress Committee (AICC) media and publicity wing chairman Pawan Khera posted on X.
