New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh revenue minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Karan Singh Verma kicked up a storm at a public meeting in Sehore district on Thursday (February 5) as he threatened to delete the names of the Ladli Behnas absent from the meeting from the list of beneficiaries.During a government program organised in Dhamanda village, part of the Ichhawar assembly constituency, in Sehore district, Verma, claimed that wheat was being sent to every house from Delhi because of the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a sum of Rs 1,500 is transferred to the accounts under the Ladli Behna scheme every month, adding that the Congress “never gave a single penny” to women, reported Free Press Journal.A purported video from the meeting was also circulating on social media platforms. He further claimed that the MP government was providing financial aid worth Rs 1,500 per month to 894 Ladli Behnas in Dhamanda village yet their attendance in government programs remains very low. “How many Ladli Behnas out of 894 are present at the meeting?” he asked. The program in question was the inauguration of a sub-health centre. He then went on to say that he would tell the chief executive officer to call all the beneficiaries of the village and to delete from the list the names of those who were absent.“I will tell the CEO madam to call everyone one day. If they don’t come, their names will be deleted. We will send a report from here,” he said.“Did Congress ever give a single penny to any Behnas? But you are not paying attention to what is being done for your welfare,” he alleged.Congress leader Bhupendra Gupta Agam slammed the ruling BJP, saying such statements reflect a dangerous mindset.“This is a minister from Madhya Pradesh… Karan Singh ji, this is our taxpayers’ money, not your uncle’s. You used the “Ladli” (beloved daughter) scheme to ask for votes, and now you’re threatening them? Have some shame!” he said in a post on X.ये मप्र का मंत्री है। लाज करो#BJP4IND @digvijaya_28 @ANI @OfficeOfKNath pic.twitter.com/OOBW3hHCnP— Bhupendra Gupta Agam (@BhupendraAgam) February 5, 2026In December, another state minister, Vijay Shah, was involved in a similar controversy as he said Ladli Behna beneficiaries should “show respect” to the chief minister because crores are being distributed under the scheme. He suggested that those who don’t, could see their applications put on hold. He reportedly warned that Aadhaar linking issues could automatically stop payments. The remarks, made during a district development advisory committee meeting in Ratlam, were widely perceived as coercive and threatening.
