New Delhi: An inquiry has revealed financial irregularities in the money spent on accommodation and meals of VIP visitors at the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand, leading to the state government ordering action against the officials and employees who are responsible, reported New Indian Express.The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) had initiated the inquiry after documents obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act raised questions over the alleged use of temple funds for VIP hospitality.“The investigation has been completed and its findings have been submitted to the state government. The government has directed action against the officials responsible,” BKTC chairman Hemant Dwivedi told New Indian Express.The information obtained under RTI has revealed that around Rs 60,000 was shown as expenditure in the name of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state secretary Neha Joshi, while more than Rs 37,000 was linked to Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal.The expenses allegedly relate to accommodation and meals during the leaders’ visits to Kedarnath. However, both Joshi and Nautiyal have denied the allegations and said that they had personally paid for their expenses.The opposition has slammed the BJP government in the state over the alleged misusing of donations and offerings made by devotees.Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal has called for transparent proceedings and stringent action against those found guilty.The inquiry initiated by the BKTC has found that in some cases, bills for the accommodation and meals of VIP guests had been paid by the temple committee and that prescribed financial rules were not fully followed while processing the payments.“Prima facie, the release of advance money withdrawn from the temple fund without approval from the competent authority falls within the category of financial irregularity,” said deputy secretary Anil Kumar Pandey in a letter dated June 25 directing the BKTC chief executive officer to initiate action in accordance with the rules.The alleged irregularities in Kedarnath have been revealed at a time when the BJP is facing severe criticism for the alleged embezzlement of funds at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
