New Delhi: The opposition Congress has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat over an alleged question paper leak for a third-year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) examination at the Gujarat Ayurved University in Jamnagar. With the university ordering an inquiry into the allegations of question paper leak, the Congress has alleged that Gujarat has witnessed 34 paper leaks between 2014 and 2024.“We have received a complaint about an alleged paper leak. Some of the questions asked in the examination are alleged to have been circulated in some groups and marked as important questions. We will investigate whether there was any irregularity and whether the allegations are true,” said HP Jhala, director in-charge of examinations at the university, reported Hindustan Times.Students of the university have alleged that 11 of the 12 questions in the question paper for the third-year BAMS Shalya Tantra-I examination conducted on July 20 matched questions that had been circulated on WhatsApp before the examination, and were marked as important. The Congress has cited the incident to attack the BJP, which is already facing anger from students across the country over the NEET question paper leak, which led to massive protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the youth, leading to the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.“Another day another paper leak – this time in the Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar. This is not an exception. Gujarat has witnessed 34 paper leaks between 2014 and 2024,” Congress Rajya Sabha MP and general secretary in-charge, communications, Jairam Ramesh wrote on X.Ramesh alleged that some of the other question papers of public examinations leaked in Gujarat included the GPSC chief officer’s paper in 2014, Talati paper in 2015 and 2016, the TAT – teacher paper, mukhya sevika paper, nayab chitnis paper and lokarakshak dal paper in 2018, the non-secretariat clerk exam in 2019, the head clerk, DGVCL vidyut assistant and sub auditor exams in 2021, the forest guard exam in 2022 and the junior clerk exam in 2023.“Even the infamous UP police recruitment examination leak of 2024 was orchestrated from Ahmedabad. Gujarat under the BJP has become the “epicentre of all paper leaks in India”. The Modi Government’s fast-track courts are not a solution to this systemic issue. It is a diversion. We need a larger and more honest conversation on how to reform our examination and education system,” added Ramesh.
